Labay MS, Rayzor Sharp Barber Shop Establish Adopt-a-School Partnership

August 25 2022

Representatives from Rayzor Sharp Barber Shop visited the staff at Labay Middle School on Aug. 17 to officially announce their Adopt-a-School partnership with the campus.

CFISD’s Adopt-a-School program pairs schools with community organizations and business partners to utilize resources of the community to strengthen and enrich the quality of education for students.

In addition to its proximity—Rayzor Sharp is less than five miles from Labay—shop owner Frank Achoundong said supporting students and having the business partner be a pillar in the community are among the many reasons to partner with the campus.

principal, hold commemorative Adopt-a-School certificates as the campus and community partner
announced on Aug. 17 they formally entered an adoption partnership. They were joined by CFISD
Director of Community Engagement Dawn Tryon.

“My parents were in education, and I feel that education is very critical in growing children,” Achoundong said. “If there’s a place where my business, which is part of the community, can connect or needs to start connecting, it’s with the schools. And the reason we chose middle school is because of that age group. That’s where you want to catch their attention and get them excited. We don’t want to miss that.”

Dr. Michael Contreras, Labay principal, expressed his gratitude for Rayzor Sharp Barber Shop, Achoundong and the partner’s commitment to helping play an integral part in the education process.

after the community partner announced its official partnership with Labay Middle School on Aug. 17.

“With this adoption and with bringing Rayzor Sharp into this school, it added value,” Contreras said. “Parents are involved in the school and parents come to the school, and when you have a community member that comes and a business partner that comes and wants to partner with you, the teachers feel validated. They feel the immediate appreciation, like somebody is noticing what we do for the students of the community.”
