Trash Collection & Cart Placement

Use the trash cart supplied by Best Trash. Place it at the street by the curb with the handles facing toward the street. The flyer specifies one 65-gallon trash cart and one 65-gallon recycling cart per residence.

Try to fit household refuse inside the trash cart. Extra trash may be placed next to it in 30- to 50-gallon containers or bags weighing no more than 40 pounds. Have the cart and any extra items out by 7:00 a.m. on collection day.

Recycling on Wednesdays

The district flyer lists these accepted materials:

  • Paper, including cardboard
  • Plastics numbered 1 through 5 and 7
  • Aluminum and tin cans
  • Glass in all colors

Remove caps, liquids and food from containers. Use the provided recycling cart for recyclables only; it will not be emptied as an extra trash cart. Flatten cardboard boxes and place them beside the recycling cart. Clearly mark any overflow materials placed next to the cart as recycling. The flyer permits extra trash and recycling in bags or 30- to 50-gallon cans alongside the appropriate cart.

Heavy Trash & Yard Trimmings

Heavy trash is collected on both regular trash days: Wednesday and Saturday. The flyer lists appliances, furniture, mattresses and prepared carpet among the items collected.

  • Branches, shrubs, brush and fencing: Pieces must be no more than 4 inches in diameter and 4 feet long, tied into bundles weighing no more than 40 pounds.
  • Carpet: Up to one room of carpet, cut to less than 4 feet wide and tied into bundles weighing no more than 40 pounds.
  • Refrigerators, freezers and other refrigerant-containing appliances: Best Trash requires the refrigerant to be removed and an accompanying bill documenting that service before collection.

For more than normal amounts of household refuse, yard trimmings or bulk items, request a special-collection price by emailing customerservice@besttrashtexas.com. Include your district name (Harris County MUD No. 495), address and several photographs of the items.

Items Not Collected

The flyer excludes dirt, sod, mulch, rocks, bricks, tile, concrete, tires, batteries, motor oil, cooking oil, sheetrock, insulation, construction debris, waste generated by a private contractor and hazardous materials. It also cautions against placing gasoline, paints or other liquids where collection crews cannot see them. Best Trash leaves a tag explaining why an item was not collected.

Holiday Service

The district flyer lists New Year's Day, Independence Day and Christmas Day. When a regular trash collection day falls on one of these holidays, collection moves to the next regularly scheduled collection day. Contact Best Trash for current service alerts or holiday recycling questions.

Cart Care & Service Questions

Best Trash replaces carts that are defective or become unusable through normal wear and tear. The supplied flyer lists an $85 charge for a lost or stolen cart; confirm the current replacement charge directly with Best Trash.
