Katy ISD Earns Prestigious 2023 Texas Honor Roll Recognition for Closing Learning Gaps
Katy ISD has been recognized for its efforts in closing the learning gap among students, particularly those from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds. The district was given with the honor of being named a 2023 Texas Honor Roll District, according to a release issued by the district.
The Texas Honor Roll, an initiative led by the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence in collaboration with the Texas Business Leadership Council and other partners, acknowledges only the top-performing schools in the state. Out of all the aspirants, a mere 10% or 89 Texas school districts receive this recognition.
Reflecting on the accolade, Dr. Christine Caskey, Chief Academic Officer, emphasized the measurable success of the district, "The strongest evidence of our success is that our students – all of our students – continue to make strides in their academic achievement, and the STAAR results are just one way to measure that. Being named to the state Honor Roll list is just further evidence that our efforts are successful.”
Notably, the selection process for the Honor Roll is comprehensive, relying on the assessment of students' STAAR outcomes from 2019 to 2023. This involves tracking the enhancement in reading, writing, and math proficiency. Katy ISD was successful in this evaluation, signifying its concrete effect in enhancing the learning curve of its pupils.
The acknowledgement of Katy ISD's achievements doesn't stop at the district level. Adding to its honors are 27 of the district's schools which have been named to the list. These schools span high schools, junior highs, and elementary schools, demonstrating a district-wide commitment to academic excellence:
