Katy ISD Board to Swear In Newly Elected Trustees, Review Budget Updates and Student Achievements at May 11 Meetings

Katy / Fulshear  /  Katy / Fulshear
May 07 2026

Residents in Katy Communicator who are zoned to Katy ISD will see several important district matters addressed during the Katy Independent School District Board of Trustees meetings on Monday, May 11, 2026, including the official certification of the recent school board election, leadership reorganization, budget discussions and updates tied to student achievement and school operations.

The meetings come as many families across Katy ISD begin preparing for the final weeks of the school year and look ahead to district priorities for the 2026-27 academic year. Topics ranging from transportation safety requirements to future school infrastructure and financial planning could directly affect students, parents and taxpayers throughout the community.

The evening will begin with a Special Board Meeting Canvass at 3:45 p.m. at the Katy ISD Education Support Complex Board Room, located at 6301 S. Stadium Lane in Katy. During that meeting, trustees are expected to officially canvass and certify the results of the May 2, 2026 Katy ISD Board of Trustees election for Positions 3, 4 and 5.

The Regular Board Meeting will follow at 5 p.m. in the same location.

Newly Elected Trustees to Take Oath of Office

One of the most anticipated portions of the evening will be the administration of the oath of office to newly elected trustees, followed by the Board’s annual officer elections for the 2026-27 school year.

For many Katy ISD families, school board leadership decisions shape long-term conversations around academics, campus safety, district growth, budgeting and future school planning. Trustees play a key role in setting policy and overseeing one of the largest and fastest-growing school districts in Texas.

Student Achievements and Campus Recognitions Planned

The May 11 agenda also includes several student and campus recognitions highlighting achievements across Katy ISD schools.

Among the recognitions scheduled are:

  • University Interscholastic League 2026 Golf State Championship honorees
  • Recognition of Katy ISD Class of 2026 valedictorians and salutatorians
  • A special campus recognition for Freeman High School

The meeting will also feature student participation from the Navy JROTC, Cross Elementary and the WoodCreek Junior High Choir.

Budget, Bus Safety Costs and Infrastructure Items on Agenda

Several operational and financial items that could affect district planning and taxpayer resources are also scheduled for discussion.

Trustees are expected to review:

  • March 2026 financial reports
  • May 2026 budget amendments
  • Compliance costs associated with retrofitting buses with 3-point seatbelts under Texas Senate Bill 546

The Board will also consider easements connected to utility and storm sewer infrastructure projects supporting continued growth in the district, including services related to Elementary School #49.

Additional agenda items include academic competition presentations, a Katy Council of PTAs update, library book acquisitions and school safety discussions held in closed session.
