Katy ISD Board to Review Budget, Employee Compensation, Meal Prices and Campus Projects at June 15 Work Study Meeting
Residents of Cross Creek Ranch, which is zoned to Katy ISD, may want to keep an eye on the district's upcoming Board Work Study Meeting on Monday, June 15, as trustees are scheduled to discuss several items that could affect students, families, employees and district operations in the coming school year.
The meeting begins at 5 p.m. at the Katy ISD Education Support Complex, located at 6301 S. Stadium Lane in Katy, and will be available to watch through the district's livestream. While no final action is expected on some agenda items, the discussion will provide an early look at decisions that could shape the 2026-27 school year across one of Texas' largest school districts.
For families throughout Cross Creek Ranch, topics ranging from school funding and employee compensation to meal prices and campus improvements could have a direct impact on the educational experience students receive in Katy ISD schools.
Budget and Compensation Discussions Take Center Stage
Among the most closely watched items will be a 2026-27 budget update, which will provide insight into the district's financial planning ahead of the new school year.
Trustees are also expected to discuss future approval of the Katy ISD compensation plan for the 2026-27 school year, along with a separate item concerning a potential compensation increase for district employees.
As school districts across Texas continue to navigate staffing challenges, teacher retention and competitive compensation remain important topics for families and educators alike. While no compensation figures have been posted in the agenda, the discussion could provide a clearer picture of how Katy ISD plans to support its workforce in the coming year.
Federal Grant Funding and Student Health Issues on Agenda
The board will conduct a public hearing on the district's 2026-27 Federal Grant Applications, offering residents an opportunity to learn more about funding sources that support various educational programs and student services.
Trustees will also receive the annual report from the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) and consider approval of SHAC representatives for the upcoming year.
The School Health Advisory Council plays an important role in providing recommendations related to student health, wellness, nutrition and physical activity programs throughout the district.
Meal Price Increase Under Consideration
Families may also be interested in a discussion regarding a proposed breakfast and lunch meal price increase for the 2026-27 school year.
While specific pricing details are expected to be discussed during the meeting, the item could affect households that regularly utilize Katy ISD's school nutrition program.
Campus Improvements and Facility Projects Planned
Several facility-related projects are also scheduled for discussion.
Trustees will consider approval of electrical service upgrades at the Mayde Creek Complex and a contract for design services related to renovation and construction work at the Katy ISD Complex of Innovation.
The agenda also includes discussion of a drainage infrastructure agreement involving development partners and several municipal utility districts connected to the Cane Island area.
As Katy ISD continues to experience growth across western Harris County, Fort Bend County and surrounding communities, facility investments remain an ongoing focus to support current and future students.
Specialized Student Services Agreements
The board is also expected to review multiple agreements with the Harris County Department of Education for specialized therapy and educational services, including support through ECI Project Tyke, occupational therapy, physical therapy and music therapy programs.
Additional agreements involving Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Programs with Harris County and Fort Bend County are included among the consent agenda items.
How Residents Can Participate
Community members who wish to speak during public comment must register in advance by emailing publicspeakers@katyisd.org no later than 2 p.m. on June 15.
Unlike regular board meetings, Work Study Meetings only allow comments on posted agenda items. Residents must provide their name, mailing address, the agenda item numbers they wish to address, and indicate whether they reside within Katy ISD and have children enrolled in district schools.
What Happens Next
Many of the discussion items scheduled for June 15 are expected to return for future board action, including potential decisions regarding employee compensation and other budget-related matters.
The next Katy ISD Regular Board Meeting is scheduled for June 22, 2026, when some of these topics could move closer to final approval.
For families in Cross Creek Ranch, the June 15 meeting offers an opportunity to better understand how district leaders are planning for the upcoming school year and how those decisions may affect classrooms, staff and students throughout Katy ISD.
