Kahla MS Donates 150+ Stuffed Animals in Annual Service Project

January 31 2023

Kahla Middle School students and staff donated more than 150 stuffed animals to “Bears for the Blue” for the second consecutive year as part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service (Jan. 17).

Kahla’s PBIS student acknowledgment committee repeated the “Bears for the Blue” service project as a way to support the CFISD Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies. The stuffed animals are used by police officers to comfort children during trauma.

The campus accepted donations between Jan. 17-27, cumulating 153 stuffed animals that they gave to the CFPD. The Knights donated 160 stuffed animals in their first year of the MLK Day of Service activity in 2022.

Kelsey Jackson, Kahla in-class support paraprofessional, said they kept the same service project due to the positive feedback from staff and students last year.

“I had a student come up to me and said her mom was very pleased with the school project last year because as a child she remembered receiving a stuffed animal during a family situation,” Jackson said. “As I walked by the front office where the donation boxes were located, I saw staff members smiling taking selfies with their donated item before donating it. This made me truly grateful to see. The message behind the project is that having the ability to impact other people’s lives is the one of the biggest awards you can receive, and that it is not always about receiving things but giving back to others who are in need.”
