Join the Houston SPCA for Clear the Shelters: A Day of Pet Adoption and Family Fun

August 27 2024

The Houston SPCA is set to host a national pet adoption initiative, Clear the Shelters, on Saturday, September 7. The event will take place at the Houston SPCA Campus for All Animals from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Known for their extensive work in animal rescue and adoptions, Houston SPCA is expected to have a variety of adoptable pets at the event, including dogs and cats, puppies and kittens, as well as small pets like rabbits and guinea pigs. The organization will provide a comprehensive adoption package for each pet, which includes a microchip, spaying or neutering, the most current vaccinations, a complimentary adoption bag from Hill’s Pet Nutrition, and a free post-adoption examination at the VCA Animal Hospital.

In an effort to encourage families to adopt, the Houston SPCA will be offering adoption promotions during the event. These will include Double Feline Adoptions, Golden Paws, and Pets for the Elderly.

Visitors to the Campus for All Animals will be able to meet native wildlife ambassadors, listen to wildlife experts, observe life-saving care in the pop-up kitten nursery, and enjoy free balloon animals and face painting for kids. To keep visitors comfortable in the Houston heat, Rita's Shaved Ice and Ice Cream Cart will be available during the event.

Additionally, from 11 am to 4 pm, the Adoption Center is set to host several activities and giveaways. These will include Custom-made balloon art animals, face painting, free dog and cat adoption bags and gifts from Hill’s Pet Nutrition and VCA amongst others. There will also be chat sessions with native wildlife and kitten nursery feedings.

The Houston SPCA is located near Memorial Park at 7007 Old Katy Road, Houston, Texas 77024. Those unable to attend the Clear the Shelters event but still willing to support the Houston SPCA's cause can learn more at houstonspca.org
