Jarrell High School’s 5th Quarter Gives Students a Place to Gather After Home Football Games
For many Jarrell High School students, the final whistle does not necessarily mean Friday night is over.
New Hope Baptist Church is once again hosting its 5th Quarter gatherings following Jarrell Cougars home football games, giving local students a place to spend a couple more hours together in a safe, welcoming setting after leaving the stadium.
The events run from 10 p.m. to midnight at New Hope Baptist Church, 1700 CR 305 in Jarrell, with music, snacks, games and time for students to simply hang out with friends.
For Jarrell families, the gathering offers something especially useful on football nights: a planned destination for students after the game and another opportunity for the community to stay connected beyond the stands.
What Is Jarrell’s 5th Quarter?
The 5th Quarter is designed as an informal postgame gathering for Jarrell High School students after home football games.
Instead of Friday night ending when the Jarrell Cougars leave the field, students can head to New Hope Baptist Church for two hours of activities and fellowship.
The format is intentionally simple. Students can listen to music, grab snacks, play games and spend time with classmates in a supervised community setting.
It is one of those local traditions that sits at the intersection of school spirit and community involvement, with adults and organizations outside the school district helping create additional spaces for young people to connect.
2026 Jarrell 5th Quarter Schedule
The church announced six 5th Quarter dates tied to Jarrell home football games during the 2026 season:
- Aug. 28
- Sept. 4
- Sept. 18
- Oct. 9
- Oct. 23
- Oct. 30
With the Sept. 18 gathering now complete, the next Jarrell 5th Quarter is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9, followed by events Oct. 23 and Oct. 30.
Each gathering is scheduled from 10 p.m. until midnight.
A Friday Night Tradition Beyond the Football Field
High school football already brings together students, parents, alumni and neighbors across Jarrell. The 5th Quarter extends that sense of community a little longer after home games.
For students, it means having somewhere to go where they can continue spending time with friends. For parents, it provides another organized option during late Friday evenings. And for the broader Jarrell community, it reflects the kind of partnership that can form when churches, schools and residents find ways to support local teenagers.
Pastor Kevin Ross and New Hope Baptist Church continue to provide the gathering space and organize the opportunity for students throughout the football season.
As the Jarrell Cougars move deeper into their 2026 schedule, three more 5th Quarter nights remain on the calendar, giving students another place to gather after some of the community’s biggest Friday nights of the fall.
