Hundreds of Spring ISD Students Recognized for Local, State and National Achievements During May Board Meeting

May 16 2024

More than 200 students from across the district gathered for the annual May Board Meeting – held this year on May 14 in the Dekaney High School Star Theater – to be recognized by the Spring ISD Board of Trustees for a range of individual and team accomplishments.

“For the Board of Trustees, this May Board meeting is the highlight of our year,” said Board President Justine Durant. “We have outstanding students here in Spring ISD, and it’s truly a pleasure and honor to be able to recognize their hard work and accomplishments in this special setting. You’ll see scholars, athletes, musicians and others walk this stage tonight. They provide us all with inspiration and motivation to always strive for excellence.”

Two kinds of awards were handed out Tuesday night, with Points of Pride awards going to students and teams with high-level achievements at the state or national level, while Spotlight Awards were given to students with other accomplishments at the local or regional level. Accomplishments included everything from the Westfield High School theater students advancing their One Act Play to the state-level competition to Spanish spelling bee winners.

Spring ISD Superintendent Lupita Hinojosa thanked the families of the student honorees in attendance – not only for being there to celebrate their student’s accomplishments, but for the longstanding support leading up to that moment.

“As the school year is drawing to a close, we have gathered here to honor the best and brightest that Spring ISD has to offer,” Dr. Hinojosa said. “The May Board Meeting student honors celebration has been a longstanding tradition in Spring ISD. Our appreciation also goes to those families who are there every step of the way to encourage, support and maintain our students’ focus on finishing their goals and continuing with their education.”

Those in attendance included parents, family members, teachers, and fellow students eager to cheer on the honorees. Student emcees Santos Duran and Ashlynn Foster-Smith from Spring High School helped host the evening, and announced each student’s name and recognition as they crossed the stage.
