How to Report a Streetlight Outage in Williamsburg Settlement—And Why It Matters This Fall

October 02 2025

As the days get shorter and sunset creeps earlier each evening, well-lit streets are more important than ever across Williamsburg Settlement. With daylight saving time ending on Sunday, November 2, 2025, residents are already starting to notice darker walks, dimmer driveways, and longer shadows during evening commutes or strolls through the neighborhood.

Fortunately, reporting a streetlight outage is fast, easy, and just a few clicks away through CenterPoint Energy, which maintains most streetlights throughout the Greater Houston area.

Why Streetlights Matter This Time of Year

As fall settles in and we lose precious minutes of sunlight each evening, functional streetlights play an important role in:

  • Enhancing safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers
  • Helping deter crime
  • Making it easier to navigate sidewalks and streets after dark
  • Providing peace of mind for families enjoying walks or letting kids play outdoors in the early evening hours

Whether you’re heading home from work or walking the dog after dinner, keeping the lights on in our community helps everyone feel safer and more connected.

How to Report a Streetlight Outage in Williamsburg Settlement

If you notice a streetlight that is flickering, completely out, damaged, or staying on during the day, you can report it directly to CenterPoint Energy using their online streetlight outage map tool at https://gis.centerpointenergy.com/sloreporting.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Visit the interactive streetlight map linked above.

  2. Enter the streetlight number (found on the pole) or the nearest street address.

  3. Click the specific light that’s not working correctly.

  4. Describe the issue—whether it's out completely, cycling on and off, damaged, or other.

  5. Submit your report.

You can also visit CenterPoint Energy’s full Streetlight Outage Help Page for additional instructions and resources.

If your issue is a full power outage (not just a streetlight), call 713-207-2222 or 800-332-7143, or view the CenterPoint Outage Tracker for live updates.

Houston’s Shift to LED Streetlights: A Bright Idea

You may have noticed a cooler, crisper glow from newer streetlights in the area. That’s because CenterPoint Energy has converted about 80% of Houston’s 173,000 city lights to LED lamps—and the benefits are shining through.

These LED upgrades are part of a five-year citywide project expected to wrap up by the end of this year. So what makes them different?

  • Use 50% less energy
  • Lower greenhouse gas emissions
  • Last longer with fewer maintenance issues
  • Reduce light pollution
  • Provide more directed light to improve visibility and safety

According to CenterPoint Energy, this project will reduce electricity use by around 70 million kilowatt hours annually—enough to power 5,400 local homes for a full year.
