Houston Pets Alive!'s Foster Summit 2024 Brings Together Animal Advocates for a Day of Learning and Networking
On Saturday, August 3, 2024, animal lovers, shelter workers, rescue volunteers, and anyone interested in making a difference for at-risk cats and dogs will unite at the Houston Pets Alive!'s (HPA) Foster Summit 2024. The event, which will be held at the Norris Conference Center in CityCentre, strives to be a transformative platform for fostering knowledge and networking.
Founded in 2014 by Andrea Birkelbach, the owner of ReadyPet Animal Clinic, HPA is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to saving at-risk companion cats and dogs in Houston. They aim to find loving homes for these animals, envisioning a world where every pet has a forever home. Against the backdrop of Houston's critical homeless pet crisis, HPA has been actively collaborating with local governments, shelters, rescues, and the community to increase positive outcomes for pets and reduce euthanasia, pet homelessness, and animal suffering.
The Foster Summit 2024 will take place from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. With a packed agenda that includes enlightening workshops, expert-led classes, insightful panels, and engaging presentations, the event caters to everyone ranging from beginners to experienced fosters. The summit also presents an excellent opportunity for attendees to connect with more than 15 local shelters and rescue groups, including BARC, Fort Bend County Animal Services, Harris County Pets, and Special Pals.
One of the highlights of the event will be the special guest speaker, Hannah Shaw, known as the Kitten Lady. Courtesy of the event sponsor, Best Friends Animal Society, Hannah will be imparting her knowledge and expertise on kitten care and advocacy through a full day of engaging presentations and hands-on workshops.

The event will kick off with a shelter panel where representatives from Greater Houston shelters will discuss their foster programs and needs. Following the shelter panel, the attendees will have a range of sessions to choose from. Topics covered will range from the emotional and financial aspects of pet fostering and advanced caretaking strategies to first aid training for pets and effective ways to market foster pets for adoption.
In between the sessions, attendees can explore valuable resources available through exhibitors, participate in raffles, and network with fellow participants. The event will conclude with a networking hour where attendees can sign up to foster with an attending shelter and the first 100 dog foster sign-ups and the first 100 cat foster sign-ups will receive a complimentary foster essentials kit.
In summary, Houston Pets Alive!'s Foster Summit 2024 promises to be a transformative experience filled with learning, sharing, and networking opportunities, ultimately aiming to make a significant difference for Houston's at-risk cats and dogs.
