Help Cypress Assistance Ministries Restock Their Food Pantry After Serving Record Holiday Meals

January 04 2025

Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM), a vital nonprofit organization serving families in the Cypress and Northwest Houston areas, is calling on the community to help restock its food pantry. Following an unprecedented holiday season where CAM distributed over 1,600 meals to families in need, the pantry’s supplies are critically low.

Established to assist families in financial or personal crises, Cypress Assistance Ministries offers a range of services, including food distribution, job training, and financial aid. The organization relies heavily on donations and volunteers to sustain its efforts and has become a cornerstone of support for Cypress residents facing challenges.

The Food Pantry at CAM is one of its most impactful services, distributing meals and groceries to families and individuals who need immediate assistance.

This effort was made possible by generous community donations, but as the organization gears up for its 2025 food distribution efforts, replenishing the shelves has become an urgent priority.

Holiday Demand Exceeded Expectations

CAM’s Food Pantry Director, Henry Lombraña, shared that the organization served more than 700 families at Thanksgiving and over 900 families at Christmas—well above the usual averages of 300 and 400 families, respectively.

“We were blessed to meet the needs of so many families during the holidays,” Lombraña said. “Now, we ask the community to help us prepare for the year ahead so we can continue to provide assistance to those who rely on us.”

Make a Difference Locally

Community members can help amplify the impact of Cypress Assistance Ministries' food pantry by rallying support from local schools, organizations, and businesses. Schools can organize food drives, encouraging students, teachers, and parents to contribute items, while local clubs or special interest groups can host themed donation events to engage their members. Neighborhoods and HOAs can create friendly competition or collaborative donation drives between blocks, fostering a sense of unity and collective responsibility. Local businesses and workplaces can set up donation bins in high-traffic areas, offering discounts or incentives for employees or customers who contribute.
