Help a Child Develop a Love for Reading in Cy-Fair
Share your joy of reading as a Lone Star College-CyFair Library Book Buddy volunteer today.
Book Buddies is a free 9-week program that brings kindergarten through 3rd-grade children (Little Buddies) and adult volunteers (Big Buddies) together once a week for 45 minutes of one-on-one shared reading. A Big Buddy helps a Little Buddy with reading and comprehension skills now for future success in school and with the ultimate goal of instilling a lifetime joy of reading.
Buddies will meet from 5:00 PM to 5:45 PM on Tuesdays from September 12 through November 14 in the library at LSC-CyFair, located at 9191 Barker Cypress Road.
Volunteers for this literacy program must be at least 18 years old. There will be a background check and training in late August. Apply by Aug. 15 at hcpl.net/book-buddies-adult-volunteer-application. For more details, email Jennifer.E.Wyman@LoneStar.edu or call 281-290-3914.
The library also offers additional numerous rewarding volunteer opportunities which range from helping in the circulation area, Kids Corner and the Teen Room, as well as assisting with adult programming and the Friends of Library in their bookstore. For information on how to join the library’s team of volunteers, including requirements, such as the minimum age of 15, and the application process, go to Cflib.info/volunteer or email CF-LibraryVolunteer@LoneStar.edu.
