Hearthstone Residents Urged to Take Action Following Tragic Passing of Resident

September 05 2024

This post was made by Mary Alice Kahanek on the Hearthstone neighborhood Facebook page on September 4, 2024.

Dear Neighbors,

We are all still grappling with the tragic events that unfolded in our peaceful community last week. The loss of Heather Smith has deeply impacted us all.

Now is the time for us to take action.

After consulting with legal experts, we've been advised to send a petition to the Harris County District Attorney. By coming together as a community, we can make our voices heard. If you’re not aware, the DA has a reputation for being lenient on crime and was willing to set a $3 million bond for Braziel. Thankfully, the judge overruled this request.

It is crucial that Braziel does not return to our neighborhood. We must stand with Heather’s family and ensure that Braziel is held fully accountable under the law.

We have prepared a petition and will be collecting signatures in person. The petition has a privacy clause so all names on the petition will be held with strict confidentiality.

If you have had any personal encounters with Braziel and wish to contact the DA directly, I strongly encourage you to do so at da@dao.hctx.net

Our goal is to collect 300 signatures ASAP, before Braziel’s next court date on November 6th. Please do not delay if you wish to be counted. I will provide updates on our Hearthstone Facebook page about when and where you can sign.
