Hays County Tax Office Card Payments Temporarily Unavailable Ahead of Oct. 21 Closure
Sunset Oaks residents with property-tax business coming up should plan for two temporary service changes at the Hays County Tax Office: credit and debit card payments for property taxes remain unavailable while the county finishes its software transition, and all Tax Office locations will be closed Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, for staff development.
The new system is now running, but payment processing is still being finalized. For now, property-tax payments are being accepted by cash or check in person, and by check through the mail or county drop boxes. Residents should not mail cash.
Motor Vehicle Services Are Separate From the Property-tax Software Issue
Motor vehicle services are not affected by the property-tax software transition. However, the Oct. 21 staff-development closure applies to the Tax Office itself, so residents needing vehicle title or registration help should also avoid planning an in-person visit that day.
Title transactions are not accepted after 4 p.m. on regular business days. Residents who need a title transaction should arrive earlier to allow time for processing.
San Marcos Drive-thru Remains Unavailable
The San Marcos drive-thru is temporarily unavailable because of an equipment issue, with no confirmed restoration date. Services remain available inside the San Marcos office and at county substations when offices are open.
The main Hays County Tax Office is at 712 S. Stagecoach Trail, Suite 1120, San Marcos, TX 78666, and can be reached at 512-393-5545. The Kyle substation is at 5458 FM 2770, Kyle, TX 78640, with phone number 512-268-8024.
