Hays County Health Department Announces 2026 Back-to-School Health Fair in San Marcos with Free Screenings, Resources and Family Fun

June 17 2026

As families across Hays County begin preparing for the 2026-27 school year, the Hays County Health Department is planning an event designed to make that transition a little easier.

The department has announced its 2026 Back-to-School Health Fair, a community-focused event that will bring together free health services, health screenings, food, activities and local resources for families before students return to the classroom. The fair is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Owen Goodnight Middle School in San Marcos.

For many Hays Consolidated ISD parents, back-to-school season comes with a long checklist that can include medical appointments, health screenings and gathering information about services available in the community. Events like the Hays County Health Department's annual health fair help connect families with those resources in one location while also providing a fun and welcoming environment for children.

Helping Families Start the School Year Healthy

According to information released by the Hays County Health Department, attendees can expect a variety of free services and activities, including health services, health screenings, food and treats, games, giveaways and access to community resources. The event is being promoted under the theme "Health Without Limits for This School Year!" and will be offered in both English and Spanish outreach materials to serve the county's diverse population.

The event reflects a growing emphasis on preventive care and community health outreach, particularly for school-aged children. Access to health screenings and community support services can help families identify potential concerns early while ensuring students are ready to begin the academic year.

A Community Gathering Beyond Healthcare

While the health-focused services are a central component of the event, organizers are also creating an atmosphere that encourages families to spend time together and connect with local organizations.

Games, activities and free giveaways are expected to be part of the experience, helping turn what could otherwise be a routine health visit into a community celebration. Community resource providers will also be available to share information about programs and services that support children and families throughout the year.

For San Marcos residents and families throughout Hays County, the event offers an opportunity to learn more about available resources while preparing students for a successful school year.
