Hays CISD Offers Free 13-Week Parenting Program to Help Families Build Skills at Home
For parents, raising children often comes with a long list of questions that do not always have simple answers. Hays CISD is offering families a place to work through some of those questions together while learning practical strategies they can bring home.
In partnership with RezilientKidz, the district’s Raising Highly Capable Kids Parent Program begins the week of Aug. 31, 2026, offering a free, 13-week course designed to help parents and caregivers strengthen family relationships and develop skills for raising healthy, caring and responsible children.
For Hays CISD families looking for parenting classes, family support programs or resources for raising children in the Kyle and Buda area, the program provides a structured opportunity to learn, talk with other parents and put new ideas into practice at home.
What Is the Raising Highly Capable Kids Program?
Raising Highly Capable Kids is designed to give parents greater confidence, practical tools and a stronger understanding of the developmental experiences that can help children thrive.
The curriculum is based on the Search Institute’s 40 developmental assets, a framework focused on the positive relationships, experiences, values and skills that support healthy development in young people.
Rather than relying only on lectures, the 13-week Hays CISD parenting course combines presentations with group discussions and interactive activities. Families are also encouraged to apply what they learn between sessions, extending the program beyond the classroom and into everyday life at home.
That format gives parents a chance to think through real family situations, hear different perspectives and build habits gradually over the course of the program.
Free English Classes Offered at Two Hays CISD Campuses
English-language Raising Highly Capable Kids classes begin the week of Aug. 31 and are being offered at two Hays CISD campuses.
Hemphill Elementary School will host classes on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. - REGISTER HERE
Chapa Middle School will host classes on Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. - REGISTER HERE
Families can choose the campus and schedule that works best for them and register through the corresponding Hays CISD registration form.
The program is free, removing one potential barrier for families interested in participating in a multiweek parenting course.
Why the Program Could Matter for Hays CISD Families
Family support programs can be especially useful when they give parents strategies that fit into ordinary routines rather than asking families to completely rethink how their households operate.
Raising Highly Capable Kids is built around that idea. Participants listen to presentations, take part in discussions, complete interactive activities and then practice lessons learned with their families at home.
Over 13 weeks, that repeated cycle gives parents time to test different approaches, reflect on what works and build on previous sessions.
For Hays CISD, the program also creates another connection between schools and the families they serve. Student success is shaped by what happens in classrooms, but it is also influenced by relationships, communication and support at home.
