Harris County Precinct 4 Invites Green Trails Estates Residents to Memorial Day Ceremony Honoring Fallen Service Members

As families across Green Trails Estates prepare for Memorial Day weekend gatherings and the unofficial start of summer, Harris County Precinct 4 is inviting residents to pause for something deeper — a moment of remembrance for the men and women who gave their lives in service to the country.

Commissioner Lesley Briones will host the annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 25, at the Harris County War Memorial inside Bear Creek Pioneers Park, bringing together veterans, local leaders, military families and community members from across West Harris County for an afternoon centered on reflection, gratitude and unity.

For many residents in Green Trails Estates and surrounding Harris County Precinct 4 neighborhoods, the ceremony offers a meaningful local opportunity to honor the true purpose of Memorial Day — remembering those who never made it home.

Originally established after the Civil War and later recognized as a federal holiday, Memorial Day is dedicated specifically to honoring fallen U.S. military service members. Over time, the holiday has become both a national tradition and a personal one for many families who carry memories of loved ones lost in war.

This year’s ceremony will take place at the Harris County War Memorial, a landmark built in 1985 to honor known Harris County residents who lost their lives in World War I and subsequent conflicts. Nestled within Bear Creek Pioneers Park, the memorial has long served as a quiet place for reflection for veterans and residents throughout the Cypress and Katy areas.

The event will include a wreath ceremony presented by the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Color Guard, a traditional 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps by VFW Post 9182 — longstanding military tributes that continue to carry emotional significance for veterans and Gold Star families alike.

Several veterans and community leaders are also scheduled to speak during the ceremony, including:

  • Daniel Rodriguez, U.S. Marine Corps veteran and Chief Operations Officer for Harris County Precinct 4
  • Mia Garcia, U.S. Marine Corps veteran and Executive Director of the Texas Veterans Network at Combined Arms
  • Leo Elwood, U.S. Army veteran and Chief of Staff for the Harris County Office of Managed Assigned Counsel
  • Father Miguel Solorzano, Pastor of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Catholic Church

The annual gathering has become an important tradition in Precinct 4, particularly as Harris County continues to grow and welcome new families from across the country. Events like this help preserve local connections to military history while ensuring younger generations understand the sacrifices behind the freedoms many enjoy every day.

For residents of Green Trails Estates, the ceremony also serves as a reminder of the strong veteran presence throughout the Cypress and West Houston area, where many former service members and military families call home.
