Harris County Constable Precinct 5 Vacation Watch Program Helps Protect Williamsburg Colony Homes While Residents Travel

March 05 2026

For many families in Williamsburg Colony, travel plans—whether for spring break, summer vacations, or quick weekend getaways—often come with one lingering concern: what happens to the house while no one is home?

Residents in communities patrolled by Harris County Constable Precinct 5 have access to a helpful tool designed to bring peace of mind while they’re away. Through the Precinct 5 Vacation Watch Program, homeowners can request additional attention from deputies who regularly patrol their neighborhood, allowing law enforcement to keep an extra eye on properties while residents travel.

Programs like this not only help deter crime but also strengthen the sense of shared responsibility between neighbors and local law enforcement that many communities rely on.

What Is a Harris County Precinct 5 Vacation Watch?

A Vacation Watch Request allows residents who live in a Precinct 5 contracted patrol area—such as Williamsburg Colony—to notify deputies when they will be away from their home for more than a day.

Once the request is submitted, the deputies who patrol the area are aware the home will be temporarily unoccupied and can monitor the property during routine patrols.

This added awareness helps officers quickly notice anything unusual, such as unfamiliar activity around the home, unsecured property, or other potential concerns.

Residents are encouraged to submit their requests at least three days before leaving to ensure deputies receive the information in time.

How to Request a Vacation Watch

Submitting a request is simple and can be completed online.

Residents can visit https://constablepct5.com/vacation-watch to fill out the form.

For those who prefer assistance, residents may also contact the Precinct 5 Dispatch Office, and a deputy can come to the residence to take the request. Call the 24-hour dispatch line at 281-463-6666 for assistance.

If a trip is planned within three days of departure, residents may still submit the form online but should also call dispatch so the request can be expedited.

Smart Safety Tips Before Leaving Home

Along with submitting a Vacation Watch request, Harris County Constable Precinct 5 recommends a few additional steps that can help make homes in Williamsburg Colony less vulnerable while residents are away.

Notify Your Alarm Company

If your home has a security system, notify your alarm monitoring company and consider making Precinct 5 the first contact when an alarm is triggered. This allows law enforcement to be dispatched immediately if an alarm activates.

Use Timers for Interior Lights

Leaving lights on constantly can signal that no one is home. Instead, residents are encouraged to place interior lights on timers or ask a neighbor to turn lights on and off.

Exterior lights should ideally be dusk-to-dawn sensor lights, which naturally turn on at night and off during the day.

Avoid Leaving Valuables in Vehicles

Whether parked in the driveway or on the street, vehicles should never contain visible valuables. If the home will have no cars parked outside, consider asking a neighbor to temporarily park in the driveway to create the appearance of activity.

Make Plans for Pets

Residents arranging for a friend or pet sitter to care for animals should ensure pets have updated identification tags with current contact information, just in case they get out while the homeowner is away.

Consider a House Sitter

Having someone check on the home or stay overnight can be one of the most effective ways to prevent a property from appearing empty. House sitters can also help manage mail, packages, pets, and lighting schedules.

Provide an Emergency Contact

While some homeowners want to be contacted immediately if something happens, Precinct 5 encourages residents to also provide a local emergency contact who can respond quickly if deputies need assistance accessing the property.

A Partnership Between Neighbors and Law Enforcement

Programs like the Precinct 5 Vacation Watch Program reflect a broader partnership between residents and the deputies who patrol their neighborhoods.

By simply sharing travel plans with local patrol officers, homeowners help give deputies the information they need to better protect the community.

When combined with attentive neighbors, visible patrols, and simple home safety steps, these small actions can make a meaningful difference in helping keep neighborhoods like Williamsburg Colony safe and secure.

Residents planning upcoming travel are encouraged to submit their Vacation Watch Request early and take advantage of the program before leaving town.
