Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream will celebrate the grand opening of its new Magnolia location on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 4130 Farm to Market Road 1488, introducing the nearly 81-year-old ice cream brand to the community with a feature no other Handel’s location in Texas has had before: a drive-thru.
Owned and operated by Garrett and Marlene Francis, the Magnolia Handel’s is scheduled to begin its grand opening celebration at 11 a.m. The first 100 eligible guests in line will receive free ice cream for a year, with additional giveaways and promotional surprises planned throughout the day. Guests must be at least 18 years old to qualify for the free-ice-cream offer.
For a growing Magnolia area where residents increasingly look for restaurants, coffee shops and family-friendly gathering places closer to home, the opening adds another recognizable name to the local dining landscape — while giving the national brand a distinctly local operator and a Texas first.
Handel’s Magnolia Brings a Drive-Thru to the Brand’s Texas Customers
The new Handel’s Ice Cream in Magnolia, Texas, will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. following its opening.
Customers will be able to choose from 48 flavors that rotate regularly, whether they stop inside or use the new drive-thru. Pickup and delivery will also be available through DoorDash, Uber Eats and Postmates, and the store will offer catering.

Alice Handel began making ice cream that summer using fresh fruit from her backyard garden and her own recipes. What started as a single neighborhood ice cream parlor grew into a local institution; Handel operated the original shop for 40 years, and the street was eventually renamed Handel’s Court in recognition of her legacy.
After the company was later purchased by Lenny Fisher, Handel’s expanded well beyond Ohio. The company says it has grown to more than 150 locations across 15 states, while continuing a central part of Alice Handel’s original approach: making ice cream fresh at each store rather than shipping finished product from a central production facility.
That made-fresh-in-store tradition remains one of the characteristics that distinguishes Handel’s as the chain expands into communities such as Magnolia. The company says batches continue to be made by hand on the premises using many of the methods established by its founder.
