Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and BE A Resource Join Forces to Support At-Risk Children This School Year

July 31 2024

Community organizations Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and BE A Resource (BEAR) Houston are joining hands once again in a philanthropic endeavor aimed at supporting over 13,000 at-risk and CPS-involved children as they prepare to start the new school year.

Starting August 1 until August 15, 2024, blood donors can be part of this initiative by donating essential school supplies at any of the Blood Center's Neighborhood Donor Centers. The supplies will directly contribute to the well-being and educational prosperity of children in need across the Greater Houston Area.

The Executive Director of BEAR Houston, Tammy Hetmaniak, expressed gratitude for the Blood Center's continued collaboration. "Many families do not have the financial capacity to purchase items needed for school, leading to children being unprepared to succeed in class. In 2023, we served over 13,000 children, and with recent natural disasters in our area, we anticipate an increase, and we could not do it without community partners like Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center," said Hetmaniak.
