Groundbreaking for Decorated Wounded Warrior's New Home Celebrated in Bridgeland
On March 6, a new chapter began for decorated wounded warrior Cpl. Frank Fields, II, who gathered with community leaders and supporters to celebrate the groundbreaking of his new home in Bridgeland. Construction of his home is made possible by the 100 Homes Challenge, a special initiative through Helping A Hero in which Johnny Morris, founder of Bass Pro Shops, has pledged 25% of the cost to build the next 100 specially adapted homes for those severely injured in the Post 9-11 Global War on Terror.

A bilateral above the knee amputee, Fields was severely injured by a deliberately struck remote detonated EFP blast in Iraq while carrying out a mission in November 2006. His truck was engulfed in flames, forcing him and his fellow soldiers in the vehicle to fight for their lives. Fields jumped out of the vehicle and soon discovered that his legs were severely injured. Since this life-altering experience, Fields has turned his tragedy into triumph as a powerful motivational speaker, becoming one of the top motivational speakers in the wounded warrior community. Determined to use his experiences in service of others, he is also a life coach and mentor to his fellow brothers in arms, as well as a sponsored athlete that skis, skydives, surfs, and completes Spartan races.
"Do not let your circumstances define you, rather let them define what you will do," said Fields at the groundbreaking ceremony.
Located in Bridgeland, the home will be specially adapted for Field's needs. The groundbreaking was rather timely, as Field and his fiancee, Tawnee Gonzalez, are expecting their son in July. Gonzalez is the widow of Marine Sergeant Marty Gonzalez, who passed away December 2020 from injuries he sustained in the Iraq war more than a decade prior to his passing.

Bass Pro Shops, Black Rifle Coffee, Perry Homes and other vendors have pledged funding for Field's home, representing a tangible show of appreciation for his sacrifice and service. Among the community leaders in attendance at the groundbreaking were Matthew Gerdes, City President of Perry Homes; Roger Clemens, retired MLB pitcher; Meredith Iler, founder of Helping A Hero; Mary Millben, professional singer and actress; and Challenger the Eagle with the American Eagle Foundation.
