Get Ready to Jingle: Brookwood’s Beloved Christmas Open House Returns with Holiday Magic for the Whole Family
There’s no place like Brookwood for the holidays.
Mark your calendars for Friday and Saturday, December 5–6, as The Brookwood Community invites families from across the Greater Houston area and beyond to its annual Christmas Open House—a cherished seasonal tradition in Brookshire, Texas, that’s as heartwarming as it is festive.
This highly anticipated two-day event is more than just a holiday celebration—it’s a joyful gathering that shines a spotlight on the talents and contributions of Brookwood’s beloved Citizens (adults with disabilities), offering visitors an experience that blends holiday cheer with a meaningful mission.
A Festive Lineup of Holiday Activities
From the moment guests arrive, they’ll be greeted by the magic of the season. The event schedule is packed with can’t-miss moments that highlight the creativity, joy, and talents of the Brookwood Citizens:
Citizen Christmas Program (10:00 AM & 2:00 PM)
One of the event’s most treasured highlights, this all-new holiday play will feature Citizens singing, ringing handbells, and performing with heart. The performances bring families to laughter and tears—reminders of what the season is truly about.
Campus Bus Tours (11:00 AM, 1:00 PM & 3:00 PM)
Visitors can hop aboard a guided tour through Brookwood’s beautiful 485-acre campus, meeting Citizens, exploring the community's inspiring workspaces, and earning a surprise by completing a Brookwood Passport.

Buffet Lunch in The Brookwood Café (11:00 AM–2:00 PM)
Refuel with a hearty, family-style meal at the award-winning Brookwood Café. No reservations are needed—just come hungry and ready to connect over good food.
Pictures in the Poinsettias
trike a pose in front of a dazzling sea of poinsettias—over 50,000 of them grown with care by Brookwood’s horticulture team. It’s the perfect backdrop for a holiday card-worthy photo.
Shop with Purpose
The Brookwood Gift & Garden Center will be open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day, offering a wide variety of handcrafted gifts, home décor, ornaments, and of course, Brookwood’s iconic poinsettias. All items are made by the Citizens, making each purchase a gift that gives back.
These locally made treasures make thoughtful, one-of-a-kind holiday presents—and every dollar spent helps support Brookwood’s mission of empowering adults with disabilities to lead purposeful, dignified lives through meaningful work.
A Community with a Mission
Founded in 1983, The Brookwood Community has grown into a thriving residential and vocational community that serves over 200 adults with disabilities. Its integrated social enterprises—like the café, gift shop, and garden center—offer a model of inclusion and independence that has inspired communities nationwide.
Events like the Christmas Open House not only showcase the Citizens’ talents but also help fund essential programs that support their growth, happiness, and dignity.
As Brookwood says, they’re “changing the way the world thinks about adults with disabilities”—and this joyful holiday event is proof of that promise in action.
