Fulshear Families Get Four-Day Fall Break as Lamar CISD Schools Close Oct. 9-12

Fulshear Families Get Four-Day Fall Break as Lamar CISD Schools Close Oct. 9-12

Fulshear  /   Katy / Fulshear
October 07 2026

For Lamar Consolidated ISD families in Fulshear, the upcoming October fall break will bring several days away from the usual school routine and, for some households, an opportunity for a quick getaway or a little extra time together.

Lamar CISD students will be out of school Friday, Oct. 9, through Monday, Oct. 12. With the weekend included, students will have four consecutive days away from class before returning to school Tuesday, Oct. 13. Lamar CISD’s 2026-27 instructional calendar is available through the district’s official calendar page.

For families, that may mean a few slower mornings, more time at home or a short trip out of town. For the neighborhood as a whole, it can also mean more children outside during the day and more homes temporarily unoccupied.

More Kids at Home Means a Busier Neighborhood

Residents who do not have school-age children may still notice a different pace around the community during Lamar CISD fall break.

With students out of class, neighbors may see more children riding bikes, spending time at parks or walking around the neighborhood during hours when they would normally be at school. Drivers traveling through Fulshear can help by slowing down on residential streets and staying especially alert near parks, trails, crosswalks and intersections.

Families can also use the break to remind children about familiar but important neighborhood safety habits, including looking both ways before crossing the street, watching for vehicles backing out of driveways and staying aware of their surroundings while outside.

Residents who remain home during the break can play a role, too. If a neighbor has mentioned plans to travel, simply keeping an eye on the property and reporting suspicious activity can add another layer of neighborhood awareness.

Traveling for Fall Break? Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Offers House Watch

For Fort Bend County families planning to leave town, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office offers a House Watch program for eligible homeowners whose residences will be unoccupied.

Residents can submit a request through the Sheriff’s Office online House Watch portal. The program is available to homeowners living in Fort Bend County, and requests may cover no more than 14 days during a three-month quarter.

The Sheriff’s Office notes that House Watch requests cannot be submitted for properties that are actively for sale, rent or lease. They also cannot be used when anyone will be occupying or entering the residence during the requested period. Once submitted, a request cannot be changed, although it may be canceled.

Deputies make an effort to check participating residences as time and workload allow, although the Sheriff’s Office does not guarantee that a home will be checked at a particular time or on a particular date. House Watch services are also suspended during natural disasters such as hurricanes or floods.

New users can select the option to request their first House Watch through the online portal, while returning users can enter the email address already on file and generate a PIN. Residents who have questions or encounter problems with the service can call the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office at 281-341-4665 and select option 1.

Families preparing to travel may also want to take a few additional precautions before leaving, including securing doors, windows and gates, removing valuables from vehicles, placing interior lights on timers and arranging to have mail and packages held.

Because the Fort Bend County House Watch program does not allow anyone to enter or occupy the residence during the requested period, families planning to have a friend, relative, pet sitter or other person visit the home should keep that restriction in mind before submitting a request.

A Little Awareness Goes a Long Way During Fall Break

Whether the break means a short road trip, extra family time, afternoons at the neighborhood park or simply a few mornings without the usual school-day rush, Lamar CISD’s fall break will briefly change the daily rhythm around local communities.

More children may be outside during the day, some homes may sit empty while families travel and normal weekday routines will resume Tuesday, Oct. 13, when Lamar CISD students return to class.

For Fulshear families, keeping those dates in mind and taking a few simple precautions can help make the four-day break safer and easier, whether it is spent close to home or somewhere farther away.
