Fuel for a Cause: Shell’s Giving Pump Returns to Support Families and Children Nationwide

September 09 2025

A simple stop at the gas station is fueling more than cars this fall—it’s fueling hope. Shell has brought back The Giving Pump for its fifth year, a nationwide initiative that turns everyday fill-ups into donations for local charities supporting children and families.

From now through October 31, 2025, drivers can look for the specially marked purple Giving Pump at participating Shell stations. When customers choose to fuel up at that pump, Shell branded wholesalers and station owners contribute directly to local charities—at no extra cost to consumers.

This year’s campaign has expanded to nearly 6,500 Shell stations nationwide, up from 2,900 when the initiative first launched in 2021. The reach now includes 400 local and national organizations, ranging from children’s hospitals and youth programs to food pantries and leadership development groups.

Barbara Stoyko, Senior Vice President of Mobility and Convenience Americas at Shell, said the program’s success is rooted in local partnerships. “The Giving Pump goes to show how small choices—like where you fuel up—can add up to meaningful change,” she said. “The Giving Pump works so well because of our generous retailers. They are the ones selecting the charities benefitted by our purple pumps because they know the causes that matter most to the customers in their communities.”

The initiative is designed to make charitable giving easy and accessible for everyday drivers. Each participating station displays signage identifying which local charity will benefit. Station owners and wholesalers donate a minimum of one cent per gallon pumped at The Giving Pump—or at least $300—ensuring every gallon helps.

For families and organizations receiving support, the impact is significant. Lyles Eddins, Senior Vice President of Relational Advancement for ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, shared gratitude for the program’s reach.

“We are grateful for our friends at Shell for providing an opportunity for its customers to make a difference in the lives of St. Jude families,” Eddins said. “Every small act of kindness while traveling or commuting helps St. Jude advance scientific research and treatment benefitting children from all 50 states and around the world.”

Charities benefiting in 2025 include St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, The Macoupin Center for the Developmentally Disabled, The Purvis Youth Foundation, and many more. Millions of gallons flowed through the Giving Pumps in 2024, and Shell expects even greater participation this year.

For drivers interested in finding a Giving Pump nearby, Shell offers a station locator at shell.us/givingpump. The Shell App also highlights participating locations.

As families head back to school, commute to work, or set out on fall road trips, Shell hopes The Giving Pump provides a reminder that small, everyday actions can ripple into meaningful change in communities.
