Free Back-to-School Haircuts, Backpacks and Family Fun Coming to Northwest Houston
A fresh haircut and a new backpack may seem like small things, but for a child preparing to return to school, they can make a meaningful difference.
Families in Champions Park are invited to a free back-to-school celebration on Friday, August 7, designed to help local students walk into the new school year feeling confident, supported and ready to learn.
The community event will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. at Top Barber, located at 10801 Spring Cypress Road in Houston. Children attending the event will have access to free haircuts, backpacks filled with school supplies, free food, live DJs, family-friendly activities and additional surprises planned throughout the afternoon and evening.
More than 100 supply-filled backpacks are expected to be distributed during the event.
Helping Children Start School With Confidence
The event is being organized with support from E.N.G. Roofing, who shared that the effort is about more than providing school supplies or helping children look their best before the first day of class.
“Very few investments have the power to change a child's confidence the way a fresh haircut, a new backpack, and a community that believes in them can,” Clayton Townsend with E.N.G. wrote in announcing the event.
For families balancing the cost of clothing, school supplies, transportation, meals and other back-to-school expenses, a free haircut and backpack can ease some of the financial pressure that often accompanies the beginning of a new school year.
The event also gives children a chance to enjoy an upbeat community gathering before returning to the classroom. Music, food and activities will help create a welcoming environment where students can connect with neighbors and begin the school year on an encouraging note.
“This event has never been about haircuts,” Townsend wrote. “It's about giving kids the confidence to walk into school feeling seen, valued, and prepared.”
Free Food, Music and Activities for Families
Along with free haircuts and backpacks, attendees can enjoy food donated by Alex Staten, live entertainment from local DJs and family-friendly activities throughout the day.
Organizers hope the event will feel less like a traditional school-supply distribution and more like a celebration—one that reminds children and parents that people in the surrounding community are willing to stand beside them.
“It's about reminding families that they have a community standing beside them,” Townsend wrote.

“Success means very little if we aren't using it to create opportunities and hope for the people around us,” Townsend wrote.
