Foster HS Girls Water Polo Win State in Back-to-Back Victories

November 02 2023

The reigning champions from the Foster High School Girl’s Water Polo Team have made a big splash and won the 2023 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Region III 6A State Championship for the second year in a row. In 2022, the Falcon girls won the first-ever sanctioned state high school water polo championship and the team engraved “Forever the First” on their championship rings.

On October 28, the Falcons traveled to San Antonio to compete in the finals and, ultimately, defeated the Southlake Carroll Dragons 11-8 for a back-to-back state title win.  Falcons junior, Kinley Niles, was named MVP of the match with two goals, one steal, and four shots on goal.

Foster won four matches in the playoffs by a combined 92-12 and outscored opponents 552-118 overall. The ladies completed a 29-1 season.

During the state tournament, the Foster High School Boy’s Water Polo team also placed Semi-Finalist Bronze in their competition, which was the team’s second UIL state appearance. They closed the season 24-7.

“It’s been awesome to see the growth and the dynamics of the girl’s and boy’s teams,” Foster Girl’s Water Polo Coach Kassandra Parker said. “This sport is more than just swimming, it’s a mentality. The things that cause them to have success in the water translate to their success in life – hard work, winning attitudes, and coachability.”

“Our students continue to amaze me,” Lamar CISD Superintendent Dr. Roosevelt Nivens said. “It was great being able to cheer for our teams and watch them continue to make Falcon history.”

Kinley Niles, Clara McKee, and Isabella Salazar have been named to the All-Tournament Girls Team. Elijah Molina has been named to the All-Tournament Boys Team.
