Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels: Walking Towards a Healthier Future

February 19 2024

On March 16, 2024, the community is invited to lace up their sneakers for a celebration of wellness and senior care with the 2nd Annual Walk for Seniors & Wellness Fair. Organized by Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, and proudly presented by Texas Inpatient Consultants' Dr. Dominic Sreshta and Dr. Emmanuel Opara, this event aims to raise awareness and funds for senior care in the area.

Marking the historic day on March 22, 1972, when President Nixon enacted a law to include a national nutrition program, the event also kicks off the yearlong celebration of Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels' remarkable 50 years of service. This non-profit organization has been tirelessly serving hot meals to over 1,000 seniors daily since 1974, ensuring no senior citizen goes to bed hungry.

The walk commences at the scenic Sugar Land Memorial Park, and participants will take part in an untimed one-mile walk, perfect for all ages and abilities. The event day will be packed with activities, kicking off at 7:30 am with vendor setup and on-site registration. The walk begins at 8:30 am, and after a healthy stroll, attendees can participate in Booth Bingo Drawings starting at 10:00 am.

Sponsored by Texas Inpatient Consultants, a leading primary care medical group based in Sugar Land, the event embodies their commitment to preventive medicine and health maintenance. Catering to patients 16 and older, they, along with Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, strive to promote healthier lifestyles and wellbeing among locals.

Proceeds from the fair will directly support Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels in its mission to help seniors stay independent by enriching their lives through services and resources. For those interested in setting up a vendor booth or seeking sponsorship, Becky Watts can be contacted at 281-633-7741 or bwatts@fortbendseniors.org

Apart from the upcoming walk, other noteworthy 50th Anniversary events by the organization include the 17th Annual Cinco de Mayo Fundraiser and Saturday Night Fever in September. For more information about the organization, please visit www.fortbendseniors.org

The walk is the perfect way to enjoy a day outdoors while supporting a worthy cause. Please note that while strollers are welcome, pets are not allowed at the event. In case of inclement weather, any donations to Meals on Wheels are still greatly appreciated.
