Fort Bend County to Host September 11 Heroes of Honor Observance

September 03 2025

This year marks 24 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, a day that reshaped the nation and left a lasting mark on communities across the United States. To honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who protect our communities and country, Fort Bend County will host its annual Heroes of Honor Observance on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Fort Bend County Historic Courthouse in Richmond.

The ceremony, organized by the Fort Bend County Veterans Service Office, invites the public to gather in solemn remembrance of lives lost on 9/11 while also honoring first responders and military personnel who continue to serve today. This year’s keynote reflections will be delivered by Chief Justin Jurek, Fort Bend County Fire Marshal, who will share personal insights on service and sacrifice.

Remembering September 11

On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 lives were lost in coordinated terrorist attacks against the United States. The day remains one of the most profound tragedies in American history, but also one of resilience—when firefighters, police officers, and everyday citizens stepped forward in acts of extraordinary bravery.

In the years since, annual observances have served as both a tribute to those lost and a reminder of the unity that followed. Across the nation, ceremonies like Fort Bend County’s Heroes of Honor Observance encourage residents to reflect not only on the sacrifices made in 2001, but also on the ongoing dedication of those who stand on the frontlines of safety and defense.
