Fort Bend County Officials Open Fort Bend County Fairgrounds as Emergency Shelter in Hurricane Beryl Aftermath
In the wake of Hurricane Beryl, the Fort Bend County Homeland Security and Emergency Management Office has taken swift action, providing support for those affected by the storm. In a recent announcement, Fort Bend County officials announced the availability of a shelter for residents affected by the hurricane.
In partnership with the Fort Bend County Health and Human Services division, the shelter has been opened at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds, Building C, 4310 Hwy. 36 South in Rosenberg. The shelter has been established as a sanctuary for citizens who have lost their homes or are otherwise in need due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl.
However, the problems faced by the residents of Fort Bend County don't end with the aftermath of the hurricane. As issued by the US National Weather Service Houston-Galveston, a Heat Advisory has been declared for tomorrow, June 9. The advisory warns of heat index values that could reach up to 105°F, presenting hazardous conditions, especially given the widespread power loss and absence of air conditioning due to the storm.
Residents are urged to seek refuge in the available shelter to protect themselves not only from the repercussions of Hurricane Beryl, but also from the impending high temperatures.
Additionally, the Fort Bend County Health & Human Services Department has made oxygen (O2) refills available at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds, inside the fence at Building C. Residents are advised to please bring their personal O2 bottles for refilling. Electricity for home medical devices is also available at the Fort Bend County Fair Grounds Shelter inside Building C.
The Fort Bend County Homeland Security and Emergency Management Office continues to work diligently to ensure the safety and security of its residents in the wake of Beryl. For real time updates, follow facebook.com/fbcoem.
