Five CFISD Student Artists Win 2024 State Visual Arts Scholastic Event Gold Seals

May 23 2024

Five CFISD student artists won a Gold Seal Medallion at the State Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE), held April 26-27 at San Marcos High School.

Cy-Fair High School junior Ravine Cohen, Cy-Fair sophomore Madeline Nguyen, Cypress Creek High School sophomore Mu Paw, Cypress Ridge High School senior Amaya Hayes and Cypress Woods High School senior Mia Estrada all won a Gold Seal for their artwork, which is the event’s highest honor and is awarded to students who received a Rating V.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of our recent participation is the outstanding achievement of our students,” said Lee Carrier, visual arts coordinator. “With an impressive five gold seals, our district has achieved its highest number of wards in nearly a decade. This remarkable milestone not only highlights the dedication and talent of our students, but also reflects the exceptional support and guidance provided by our art educators.”

The state competition is the culminating event for art students, teachers and administrators in Texas. Competition begins at regional events in February, where artists are interviewed and their works are judged by certified Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) judges.

At the State VASE event, 24 CFISD students received 25 state medals, led by the five Gold Seal Medallions. In addition to receiving Gold Seals, those five art pieces will join other exemplary works of art in various exhibits across the state. The tour culminates with The Gold Seal Exhibit at the annual Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) Fall Conference, to be held in November in Galveston.
