Find Your Furever Valentine: Fort Bend County Animal Services Hosts Adoption Event at Patsy’s Pet Market in Katy
Valentine’s Day is often about flowers, dinner reservations and handwritten cards. But for some Fort Bend County families, it may become the day they meet a loyal companion who changes their lives for years to come.
Fort Bend County Animal Services (FBCAS) is inviting residents to find their “furever Valentine” at a special Adoption Event at Patsy’s Pet Market on Saturday, February 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The shelter will bring several adoptable dogs who are ready for a second chance — and ready to give unconditional love in return.
Just two days later, the department will continue the conversation about animal welfare during its virtual community webinar, “Paws, People & Progress,” scheduled for February 16 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Together, the events reflect something larger than a single holiday. They speak to the shared responsibility of caring for animals in a growing county — and the meaningful role residents play in that effort.
A Valentine’s Day That Changes Two Lives
At the heart of the February 14 adoption event is a simple idea: love can be life-changing.
For the dogs arriving at Patsy’s Pet Market, many have been waiting patiently at the Fort Bend County Animal Services shelter for someone to see them, sit with them, and imagine them at the foot of a family couch or walking alongside them through the neighborhood.
Adoption events create those moments. They offer families the chance to meet dogs outside the shelter environment, ask questions, and see personalities shine. For some, it may be the first time a tail wag feels like it was meant just for them.
Fort Bend County Animal Services serves as the county’s municipal animal shelter, caring for stray and surrendered animals and working to place them into permanent homes. Each adoption not only transforms the future of one pet, it also helps create space and resources for the next animal in need.
As Fort Bend County continues to grow, so does the importance of strong adoption programs, foster support and community awareness. Valentine’s Day offers a reminder that companionship is powerful — and sometimes the best gift has four paws.

The Work Behind the Wagging Tails
Beyond adoption events, FBCAS plays a critical role in the daily life of Fort Bend County.
The department provides sheltering, medical care and enrichment for animals brought in as strays or owner surrenders. It supports public safety through animal control services and enforces county animal ordinances. The team also promotes spay and neuter awareness and responsible pet ownership practices to reduce future intake.
Shelters across Texas have faced ongoing challenges tied to population growth and increased animal intake. Community participation — whether through adoption, fostering or education — remains one of the most effective ways to reduce overcrowding and improve outcomes for animals.
That broader discussion will take center stage during next week’s virtual event.
“Paws, People & Progress”: A Community Conversation
On February 16, Fort Bend County Animal Services will host “Paws, People & Progress,” a Responsible Pet Ownership Month webinar held virtually via Webex. Registration is required.
The one-hour session will focus on:
- How responsible pet ownership helps reduce shelter overcrowding
- Adoption and foster opportunities in Fort Bend County
- Updates from the County’s recent shelter assessment
- Improvements and new projects underway at FBCAS
- Ways residents can support animals and the shelter
The webinar will include a moderated Q&A with the FBCAS Director, Fort Bend County Commissioners and County Judge candidates, offering transparency into the department’s progress and plans.
For residents who have adopted, fostered or simply care about animal welfare in Fort Bend County, the conversation offers insight into how policies, resources and community engagement intersect to shape the future of local animal services.

Why This Matters for Fort Bend County
Animal services often operate quietly in the background — until someone needs them. A lost pet. A stray on the street. A family ready to adopt. A resident with concerns about safety or humane care.
Strong animal services contribute to safer neighborhoods, healthier pet populations and improved quality of life across the county. Responsible pet ownership — including spaying and neutering, proper identification and lifelong commitment — directly impacts shelter capacity and community well-being.
Choosing to adopt is not only a personal decision. It is a community investment.
This Valentine’s Day, that investment could begin with a simple introduction at Patsy’s Pet Market — a glance, a gentle nudge, a wagging tail that feels like it was meant to find you.
