Exhibitions, Concert, Camps and More at The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts This Spring
The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is alive with activity this spring, including new exhibitions, art classes for ages 3 through adult, Spring Break Art Camp, a concert by the Lone Star College-University Park Chamber Singers, and more!
Spring Exhibitions & Artist Lecture
The Pearl is proud to present three exhibitions this spring, from February 4 through May 13, 2023.
“America’s Western Landscape” is a new exhibition by photographer Mark Burns, making its debut at the Pearl. The exhibit celebrates the raw beauty, vistas, and natural diversity of the American West, with 50 pieces selected by the artist including black and white photographs, color photographs, and hand-colorized black and white photographs. It will be featured in the Main Gallery of the Pearl and includes an optional audio guide accessible via smartphones.
Mark Burns will also give a lecture at the Pearl on Friday, March 10 at 6 p.m. The event is free but registration is required at pearlmfa.org.
In the Cole Gallery this spring, the Pearl features “Hidden Beauty in the Ordinary,” with a dozen works by artist Lindy Chambers. Chambers paints rural scenes of life in the Texas countryside where she lives. Her paintings are vibrant compositions of color that never use the same hue twice. By simply paying attention, she observes often overlooked aspects of life to discover beauty in mobile homes, stray dogs, and piles of trash.
The Hillery Gallery will showcase “All That’s Left,” a collection of work by photographer Craig Robbins.
Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and admission is free. For more information, visit pearlmfa.org.
Pearlformance Concert
The Pearl is delighted to welcome back the Lone Star College-University Park Chamber Singers and Concert Choir for a performance on Saturday, March 25 at 4 p.m.
The concert will take place in the Main Gallery of the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts. Surrounded by beautiful photographs from the exhibit, “America’s Western Landscape” students will perform songs that tell stories of the American West, including Native American tribes.
Admission is free but reservations are requested by March 23 at pearlmfa.org or by calling 281-376-6322.
Spring Break Art Camp
Registration is now open for Spring Break Art Camp which takes place Monday, March 13 through Friday, March 17. In the mornings, campers ages 5 to 8 will create pointillism paintings, experiment with STEAM projects, create paper sculptures, and get messy with outdoor art projects.
Ages 9 to 12 will meet in the afternoons, from 1 to 4 p.m. These students will learn fundamental and intermediate techniques in drawing, painting, and design, learning to draw from observation as well as create their own illustration style. Mediums such as pastels, ink, alcohol-based markers, and charcoal will be used.

“Little Art Historians” is a new class for ages 3 to 5 at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts. Children learn about a new artist each week and create fun projects inspired by that artist. To register, visit pearlmfa.org.
Preschool Programs
Little ones will love the Pearl’s new preschool class, “Little Art Historians” on Wednesday mornings for ages 3 to 5. Children learn about a new artist each week and create fun projects inspired by that artist. Registration is required; for details visit pearlmfa.org.

The public is invited to come and enjoy these beautiful floral designs. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free.
Summer Art Camps
Save the dates for 2023 Summer Art Camps, held each week from June 12 through August 4! Camps will offer a variety of themes in half-day or all-day formats, for ages 5 to 8 and 9 to 12.
NEW this year, the Pearl will kick off Summer Art Camps with a special two-week, all-day camp that combines visual and theater arts. This camp will partner with Troupe d’ Jour and takes place at the Pearl beginning Tuesday, May 30 through Friday, June 9.

School of Art
The Pearl’s School of Art has a wonderful array of classes and workshops for ages 5 through adult.
A one-day Peter Rabbit Workshop for ages 6 to 10 will be offered on Saturday, March 25. Young artists will learn about the life of Beatrix Potter, then draw a spring landscape containing a bunny in the style of Potter.
The second Spring session of youth classes begins March 27 and continues through May 12. Topics include Intro to Watercolor, Pets to Portraits, Fashion Design and Illustration, and Art Explorations II, as well as classes specifically for homeschool students. Classes are designed for various ages from 6 to 16, and all materials are included.
Adults can get in on the fun as well, with weekly art classes or half-day workshops. Spring subjects for adults include ceramics and beginning or intermediate watercolor.
Proposals for new classes are always welcome as the Pearl continues to expand its selection of classes and workshops. Art instructors are invited to submit their ideas to Grace Mussell, Director of Education, at gracepfmfa@gmail.com.

Volunteers Needed!
Looking for an opportunity to serve the community? The Pearl needs you!
Volunteer docents are needed to provide guided tours for guests of all ages. Docents should have an interest in art and be available during the day. Training is provided for each new exhibition, and docents enjoy camaraderie and fun as they share their love of art with others.
