Early Voting Kicks Off in Harris County: Everything You Need to Know to Vote

October 21 2024

Early voting begins today, marking the commencement of voting for both the President of the United States and a variety of other federal, state, and local positions. Early voting will run from today, October 21, 2024, until November 1, 2024, with Election Day set for November 5, 2024. Ballots by mail applications can be submitted until October 25, 2024.

Residents of Harris County can vote at any Vote Center in the county. Nearly 100 voting locations are dispersed across the county's 1,778 square miles, catering to its extensive registered voter population of over 2.5 million. An interactive map of these locations can be found here. Additionally, voters can view specific ballot information here. While voter registration ended on October 7, 2024, voter registration status for Texans can be checked here.

Postal voting is also an option under certain conditions, according to the Harris County Clerk’s Office Elections Department. These include if the voter is aged 65 or older, sick or disabled, expecting to give birth within three weeks of Election Day, absent from the county during the Early Voting period, or confined in jail but otherwise eligible to vote.

The identification provided by voters on their mail ballot application must match their voter record. Furthermore, postal voters are advised to call the Harris County Clerk’s Office Elections Department, provide both a Texas ID and the last four digits of their Social Security Number, and include their email or phone number on their applications to avoid application rejection or delays.

Ballots can be returned via the United States Postal Service, common or contract carriers, or in-person. All ballots must reach the Harris County Clerk's Office Elections Department by 7 p.m. on Election Day but can be delivered the following business day under certain circumstances.

Harris County is introducing the Verity Duo from Hart InterCivic this election. This machine combines touchscreen usability with a paper trail. It prints an easy-to-read, hardcopy summary of voter choices for verification and counts votes directly from this summary.

Results from Early Voting and Election Night will be available at HarrisVotes.com, with the earliest results published shortly after 7 p.m. on Election Day. Updates will continue to be posted as ballots are received, processed, and tabulated. For more information about voting in Harris County, visit HarrisVotes.com
