Doneraki Fuego y Mar Celebrates One Year in Katy: A Legacy of Authentic Mexican Flavors and Decades of Family Dedication
Doneraki Fuego y Mar Mexican Grill, part of the beloved Doneraki brand that has built a reputation as a culinary institution in Houston, is set to celebrate its first anniversary in Katy, bringing the spirit of authentic Mexican cuisine to the Katy community. The popular eatery, conceived by the Rodriguez family, has become a community staple in Houston since it was first established in 1973.
Alexandra Rodriguez, the owner of Doneraki Fuego y Mar and Katy resident, feels that opening in Katy was a natural choice. "November of 2023 we opened in Katy because it’s a great city that needed authentic Mexican food. Our Katy customers who visited our Gulfgate location urged us to open here," she shares, reflecting on the drive that propelled them to Katy.
The Doneraki brand was born from the passion of Rodriquez's father, Cesar Rodriguez, and his two brothers. They aimed to share their love for Mexican food and serve the community. Alexandra says, "My father has always had a passion for the restaurant business, and as they say it’s not work if you love what you do. That philosophy grew within our family.”
The Rodriquez family hails from Monterrey, Mexico, but they have been Houstonians since the early 70s. The family's passion for culinary arts has led them to curate a menu that offers flavors from Northern Mexico with a dash of Tex Mex. Now, the heart and soul of Doneraki’s kitchen are the family recipes handed down through generations, and they continue to be a hit among patrons. "We hope our Katy patrons know our food is from Northern Mexico. It is authentic flavors and seasonings with touches of Tex Mex dishes. We have to, of course - we are Texans," Alexandra states.
Along with their menu offerings, Doneraki Fuego y Mar Mexican Grill invite patrons to experience their extensive Sunday Brunch Buffet, featuring favorites like mole, barbacoa, menudo, and tamales. With a comprehensive bar offering a variety of drinks, including their signature Top Shelf Margarita, made with Hornitos Tequila and Grand Marnier, guests can enjoy the perfect blend of sweet and sour. The drink selection also includes refreshing mimosas and a wide range of Mexican and craft beers on tap, complemented by live music and lively mariachi performances that enhance the dining experience.

This year also marks another significant milestone for the Rodriguez family with their 51st anniversary in the restaurant business. Alexandra expresses her pride, "We are celebrating our 51st anniversary this year and it’s a great milestone for my father and our family. We are very proud of my father and how much he has accomplished."
