Discover the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Citizens’ Police Academy Program
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) has opened pre-registration for its upcoming 5-week Citizens’ Police Academy class, inviting local community members to gain an inside look at law enforcement operations.
The Citizen’s Police Academy serves as a community outreach program, aimed at fostering a stronger relationship between the sheriff's office and the local community. For citizens residing in the North Houston area, the next Citizens' Police Academy will take place at the HCSO Academy Building at 2316 Atascocita Road, Humble, TX 77396 every Thursday from August 1 through August 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
This unique program provides an opportunity for local citizens to delve into various law enforcement aspects, including patrol procedures, criminal investigations, crisis intervention teams, and more. In addition, the academy serves as an educational platform, transforming its graduates into well-informed citizens. Participants will gain a solid understanding of police services in their communities and an insight into the decision-making process of the sheriff's office.
Aside from in-depth knowledge, participants will enjoy several other perks, including the opportunity to join the CPA Alumni Association, engage in various volunteer activities with the HCSO, and secure their property effectively, thanks to enhanced safety awareness. Topics covered during the academy course include penal code, patrol procedures, detention operations, K-9 handling, homicide, internet safety, crime scene investigations, 911 communications, and internal affairs, among others.
The program is open to individuals over 21 years living in Harris County who pass a background check. Pre-registration is crucial as it guarantees a slot in the chosen class, with the limited available space rapidly filling up.
Participating in the Citizens’ Police Academy grants residents the opportunity to actively engage with members of the HCSO and fellow community members, fostering a shared understanding and interest in local law enforcement.
