Cypress Woods HS AVP Students Earn Awards at STN Nationals

April 12 2023

Cypress Woods High School Audio Video Production (AVP) students earned two Standard of Excellence in Scholastic Broadcast Journalism awards at the National Student Television Network (STN) Conference March 15-19 in Long Beach, Calif.

Cypress Woods earned a Silver Standard of Excellence in Scholastic Broadcast Journalism for its October 2022 and January 2023 episodes of CDub Today, the school’s monthly school show. Cypress Woods also earned a Bronze Standard of Excellence in Scholastic Broadcast Journalism for Episode 3 and Episode 8 of its Music Archive Podcast.

“The broadcast excellence award is the most prestigious award we can receive for broadcast journalism,” said Lori Andrade, Cypress Woods audio video production teacher. “We are competing against the very best in the United States and competition is fierce. This is the first year we were able to break into the top award winners for our school show and podcast show which just tells us that we are moving in the right direction. Going to these events helps motivate our students and pushes them to be the very best.”

Per STN rules, all entries must be entirely student-produced. STN competitions are judged by broadcast industry professionals who have years of experience in the television and film industries.

STN is a national organization that supports, promotes and recognizes excellence in scholastic broadcast journalism, creative video, filmmaking and media convergence.
