Cypress Woods Baseball Ends Season at State; Brady Sullivan Named to All-Tournament TeamÂ
The Cypress Woods High School baseball ended its historic season with the program’s first-ever appearance in the UIL Baseball State Tournament on June 9. The Wildcats finished as Class 6A state semifinalists, while senior outfielder Brady Sullivan was voted to the classification’s All-Tournament Team.
Cypress Woods was defeated by Flower Mound, 6-3, in the semifinals.
For the Wildcats, the state berth was the first in program history and capped a season in which they were District 16-6A and Region II-6A champions. They reached as high as the No. 1 team in Class 6A in the Diamond Pro/txhighschoolbaseball.com poll and posted a 20-game winning streak that began in district play and extended to the regional semifinals.
Nationally, Cypress Woods (38-5) reached as high as No. 6 in the country in the MaxPreps.com Top 25 rankings and No. 16 according to Perfect Game.
“We came into the season with some high expectations and these guys lived up to it,” said first-year Cypress Woods head coach Philip Schwarz. “They took it all the way to the state tournament and obviously today wasn’t our best day. But that’s baseball.”
