Cypress Ranch HS Football Standout Receives All-American Jersey

Oct. 20, 2022 — Cypress Ranch High School senior and defensive lineman Ashton Porter became the latest in a long line of CFISD football standouts to be recognized at the national level after he received his 2023 Under Armour All-American jersey during a pep rally on Oct. 14.
The 6-foot-3, 255-pound Porter is currently the 56th-best prospect in Texas for the Class of 2023 according to the 247Sports.com’s composite recruiting rankings and among the top 50 defensive lineman in the nation.
“I am really blessed with this opportunity,” said Porter, who is four-star prospect in the composite national rankings. “It wouldn’t be possible without all the hard work, dedication and sacrifices.”
Football hasn’t been an easy road for Porter. Following his freshman season, he considered stepping away from the sport.
“I was getting pushed around a lot on the field, being a freshman on junior varsity,” Porter said. “The physicality was hard.”
Ultimately, encouragement from his family and the desire to achieve greatness led Porter to take the field once again for his sophomore season. That year, Porter was named a unanimous District 16-6A first team player for the Mustangs.
He’ll finish his high school career as a three-year varsity team member and currently holds more than 30 scholarships offers to play college football.
“He is gifted and he works hard,” McAuliffe said. “He hit the genetic lotto. He is special and has a chance to really do some things down the road at the highest level.”
Porter is just the latest CFISD football standout to earn All-American accolades.
Recent Under Armour All-Americans include Bridgeland High School’s Conner Weigman (2022), Cypress Park High School’s Harold Perkins (2022), Cypress Ridge High School’s Vernon Broughton (2020), Langham Creek High School’s Toneil Carter (2017) and Cy-Fair High School’s Austin Deculus (2017) and Brock Wright (2017).
Former Cypress Springs High School star Leon O’Neal and former Cypress Ranch High School standout Colten Blanton were U.S. Army All-Americans in 2018.
“I have dreamed of being named an All-American since I was 5,” Porter said. “Receiving the honor is the biggest relief, but the job is not done yet. I am still trying to make it to the NFL.”
