In neighborhoods across Cypress-Fairbanks ISD (CFISD), the 2025-26 boys’ basketball season is being remembered not just for wins and playoff runs, but for the student-athletes who helped define it. With District 16-6A and District 17-6A releasing their All-District Boys Basketball Team selections, families, classmates and communities are celebrating a season that showcased both elite talent and deep-rooted school pride.

For many residents, these honors reflect more than athletic achievement. They represent the continued growth of CFISD athletics, the strength of local high school programs and the commitment of students balancing academics, leadership and competition at the highest level.

District 16-6A: A Historic Season Led by Cypress Springs and Cypress Ranch

District 16-6A’s recognition comes on the heels of Cypress Springs High School’s historic run to the UIL state semifinals—one of the deepest playoff runs in school history. That momentum carried into postseason honors, with standout players and coaches earning top distinctions.

Cypress Ranch High School senior guard Josh Goodwin was named District MVP after leading the Mustangs to the regional finals and averaging an impressive 24.7 points per game. His leadership on the court helped position Cypress Ranch as one of the district’s most competitive teams this season.

Cypress Woods senior guard KD Layton earned Offensive MVP honors, while Cypress Springs senior forward Ife Bolaji secured Defensive MVP for the second consecutive year—highlighting consistency and dominance on both ends of the floor.

Bridgeland High School sophomore Sergio Cabrera was recognized as Newcomer of the Year, signaling a strong future for the program and the district overall. Meanwhile, Cypress Springs Head Coach Larry Boykin was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Panthers to a second straight district title and their record-setting playoff run.

In total, 38 athletes from seven CFISD high schools were honored across First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention selections, reflecting the depth of talent throughout the district.

District 17-6A: Cypress Falls Leads with Undefeated District Run

In District 17-6A, Cypress Falls High School delivered a season that will be remembered for years, earning its first state semifinal appearance since 2017. That success translated into multiple individual honors and recognition across the district.

Senior forward Daniel Patton of Cypress Falls was named District MVP after averaging 20 points per game and leading the Golden Eagles through an undefeated district season. His performance anchored a team that finished with an impressive 30-6 overall record.

Cypress Ridge junior Jonathan Bracey earned Co-Offensive MVP honors, while Cypress Creek senior Tywan Collins was named Defensive MVP after setting a school record with 190 career steals—an achievement that speaks to years of dedication and defensive excellence.

The district also highlighted emerging talent, naming Cypress Creek’s Elijah Trahan and Cypress Falls’ Alvin Washington as Co-Newcomers of the Year, reinforcing the pipeline of young athletes making an immediate impact.

Why This Matters for CFISD Communities

For families across Cypress, Bridgeland, Jersey Village and surrounding neighborhoods, these recognitions represent more than awards—they reflect the culture of commitment and opportunity within CFISD.

High school athletics often serve as a unifying force, bringing communities together on Friday nights and throughout playoff seasons. These student-athletes become role models for younger students, while their achievements contribute to school pride, college opportunities and long-term success.

The recognition of more than 60 athletes across both districts also highlights the depth of talent in CFISD boys’ basketball, reinforcing the district’s reputation as one of the most competitive in Texas high school sports.

What Comes Next

As seniors prepare for graduation and many look toward collegiate careers, underclassmen recognized this season are already shaping expectations for the years ahead. Programs across both districts will look to build on this momentum, with returning players and rising newcomers stepping into leadership roles.

For residents, the impact continues into the next season—whether it’s supporting local games, following recruiting announcements or watching these athletes represent their communities at the next level.

One thing is clear: the 2025-26 season has set a new standard for CFISD basketball, and the community will be watching closely to see what comes next.
