Cypress Area Marine Corps League Detachment Spearheads Local Wreaths Across America Initiative
The Marine Corps League Sgt. MJ Marty Gonzalez Detachment 1485 in Cypress has embarked on a noble mission to commemorate and honor our fallen heroes. They are currently engaged in a fundraising initiative aimed at purchasing wreaths for the Wreaths Across America event, scheduled for December 16, 2023, at the revered Houston National Cemetery.
Their goal is to raise enough funds to cover the cost of wreaths that will adorn 150 grave in this hallowed ground. As of this writing, they have 104 wreaths sponsored, with 46 more to go in order to reach their goal.
Wreaths Across America is a poignant nationwide event that occurs annually in December. The event seeks to remember, honor, and teach about the service and sacrifices of our nation's veterans. Volunteers including family members, friends, and community members, place wreaths on the graves of veterans as a sign of respect and gratitude for their service.
