Cypress Adults with Disabilities Find Purpose and Paychecks in Reach Unlimited’s Greenhouse, Glass Studio, and Microgreens Program

May 12 2025

At Reach Unlimited in Cypress, work is more than a paycheck. For adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), it’s a way to build confidence, learn real-world job skills, and feel part of something bigger.

Reach Unlimited, a Cypress-based nonprofit founded in 1983, offers education, life skills, and vocational training for adults with disabilities. Known affectionately as “members,” participants are given opportunities to contribute meaningfully through work programs that include a thriving greenhouse, a creative glass studio, and a fast-growing microgreens initiative.

Reach Unlimited Greenhouse Helps Cypress Adults with Disabilities Grow Skills and Confidence

The Reach Unlimited Greenhouse has flourished in 2025, producing seasonal herbs, vegetables, and flowering plants. These are sold to the local community and trusted organizations like Urban Harvest and Blackwood Landfarm.

Participants gain valuable hands-on experience in horticulture—learning to plant, water, and harvest crops—while building a sense of pride in their work.

“We’ve seen incredible personal development among our members,” said the program’s coordinator. “They take pride in their work, and the community response has been overwhelmingly supportive.”

This greenhouse in Cypress provides one of the most enriching employment programs for adults with disabilities in the area.

Cypress Glass Art Program Teaches Creativity, Confidence, and Job Skills

In Reach Unlimited’s Glass Studio, creativity meets craftsmanship. Members use glass fusing techniques to make jewelry, ornaments, and home décor, which are sold at the Reach Unlimited Gift Shop and local Cypress craft fairs.

This program gives participants a chance to earn a paycheck—many for the first time—while developing motor skills, patience, and artistic expression.

One member’s story stands out: the joy of earning money has boosted his ability to wait patiently and follow instructions, turning each project into a life lesson.

Microgreens Farming in Cypress Offers a Fresh Path Forward

The Microgreens Project is the newest addition to Reach Unlimited’s employment programs. Participants grow nutrient-rich greens like arugula, radish, and broccoli in a controlled indoor environment. These superfoods are harvested and delivered to local buyers—including health-conscious families and local caterers in Cypress and Greater Houston.

This program teaches precision, sustainability, and responsibility while creating new conversations about healthy eating and urban agriculture.

With enthusiastic reviews and growing demand, Reach plans to expand its Cypress microgreens production in 2026.
