Cy-Springs Wins Girls' Hoops Title; 7 Teams Enter Playoffs

The District 16-6A and District 17-6A girls’ basketball seasons ended on Feb. 8, with seven CFISD teams qualifying for the UIL playoffs.  

Cypress Springs High School is advancing as the District 16-6A champion a year after finishing as the league runner-up. The Panthers went 13-1 in league play to claim its first outright district championship in program history. 

Cypress Springs finished one game ahead of Cypress Ranch High School, which placed second with a 12-2 record in district play. Cypress Lakes High School posted an 11-3 mark to place third, whileLangham Creek High School earned the fourth seed after finishing with an 8-6 record in district play. 

Cypress Ranch High School senior Chelsey Singleton helped lead the Mustangs to a 12-2 record in District 16-6A, earning the second seed. They will open the postseason against Tomball at 6 p.m. on Feb. 13 at Bridgeland High School.  
 

In District 17-6A, Cypress Creek and Jersey Village high schools finished as CFISD’s top-seeded teams. The Cougars and Falcons both finished 10-4 to tie for second place behind Spring Branch ISD’s Memorial High School. 

Cypress Creek High School senior Amari Chambers and the Cougars finished the regular season tied for second place in District 17-6A. They will face Houston Lamar at 7 p.m. on Feb. 13 at Houston ISD’s Delmar Fieldhouse.  
 

Also advancing in District 17-6A is Cypress Ridge High School. The Rams went 9-5 in league play to earn the fourth seed.  

Jersey Village High School senior Ja’Nya Thomas and the Falcons posted a 10-4 record in District 17-6A play. They will face Houston Bellaire at 7 p.m. on Feb. 14 at Houston ISD’s Delmar Fieldhouse. 
 
Cypress Lakes, Cypress Ranch, Cypress Springs and Langham Creek will enter the UIL Region II-6A playoffs with the following bi-district matchups:  
  • Cypress Lakes will meet Tomball Memorial at 6 p.m. on Feb. 13 at Cypress Woods High School (13550 Woods-Spillane Blvd.); 
  • Cypress Springs will play Klein Oak at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 13 at Cypress Creek High School (9815 Grant Road);  
  • Cypress Ranch will meet Tomball at 6 p.m. on Feb. 13 at Bridgeland High School (10707 Mason Road); and  
  • Langham Creek will face Klein Collins at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 13 at Cypress Woods High School. 
Cypress Creek, Cypress Ridge and Jersey Village will enter the UIL Region III-6A playoffs with the following bi-district matchups:  
  • Cypress Creek will play Houston Lamar at 7 p.m. on Feb. 13 at Houston ISD’s Delmar Fieldhouse (2020 Mangum Road); 
  • Cypress Ridge will face Houston Westside at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 14 at Delmar Fieldhouse; and 
  • Jersey Village will meet Houston Bellaire at 7 p.m. on Feb. 14 at Delmar Fieldhouse. 

Tickets are $5 each for adults and students. Tickets for Cypress Ranch, Cypress Springs and Cypress Lakes and Langham Creek are sold online. Tickets for Cypress Creek, Cypress Ridge and Jersey Village will be sold online through Houston ISD.
