Cy Springs High School Football Coach Honored as Texans Coach of the Week
Oji Fagan, Cypress Springs High School head football coach, was honored as the Houston Texans Coach of the Week on Nov. 5 during the team’s morning practice.
Fagan, now in his fourth year as Cypress Springs head coach, was nominated for the award.
“I’m driven to coach because it gives me the opportunity to influence young lives in a meaningful way,” Fagan said. “My high school coaches imparted invaluable life lessons that laid the foundation for the man I am today. Coming from a single-parent household, these coaches were father figures to me, filling a crucial role in my life for which I am forever grateful. They showed me that coaching is about more than just sports — it’s about making a positive impact. I aim to help my athletes grow into responsible, productive members of society. Success goes beyond wins and losses; it’s about developing men who will thrive on and off the field.”
Fagan was surprised with the honor by Brett Stewart, Texans director of youth football development, and two Texans cheerleaders. Fagan was presented with a certificate signed by DeMeco Ryans, Texans head coach, some Texans apparel and a $2,500 grant for the Cypress Springs football program.
“I am so incredibly proud of Coach Fagan and the work he has put into our scholar athletes and coaching staff,” said Dr. Cheryl Henry, Cypress Springs principal. “Because of his C.H.O.P. (consistent hard work over a period of time), he has built a strong team and program, and we have been able to realize success on and off the field. I can’t wait to see what’s next!”
The Texans Coach of the Week program honors one greater Houston-area high school football coach each week during the season. Coaches are recognized for their positive impact on students, their community and football program.

“Coach Fagan does a tremendous job of positively influencing his players and his community through his efforts as our Cy Springs head football coach,” said Virginia Flores, CFISD athletic director. “He is most deserving of this well-earned recognition.”
At the end of the high school football season, a Coach of the Year will be selected from the 2024 Coach of the Week winners. The winning coach will receive recognition on the Houston Texans website and social media accounts, a signed certificate, a $5,000 grant for their football program and an on-field recognition at the Houston Texans 2025 State of Football game.
