Cy-Hope Sends 46 Underserved Youth to Summer Camp
Summer at Cy-Hope's Hope Centers started off with a bang at Camp Lemonade.
This year, 46 students experienced the joy of camp at Stoney Creek Ranch, a Christian-based, 5-day and 4-night camp in New Elm, Texas. With help from the Stoller Foundation and donors, Cy-Hope makes what is normally a very cost prohibitive experience accessible for all students by providing an enriching summer camp experience for underserved youth. This year, nine Cy-Hope students received leadership awards for their positive attitudes based on votes by fellow campers. Two Cy-Hope students, Jaidy and Natalie, got jobs as camp counselors and will now help other kids have the great camp experience they got.
"I wanted to learn more about God and His ways and this is a really good camp to start out because they teach you about God and everything that's happened so far. Our counselors are the best and it's a good experience overall," said one young male camper who experienced summer camp for the first time.
Many of the kids who participated in Camp Lemonade also take part in Cy-Hope's Hope Centers, which create “community centers” in underserved neighborhoods. The centers give kids a place to come after school and during the summers to work on tutoring, enjoy recreation, learn life skills, and receive mentoring. Cy-Hope will launch a Community Hope Center at Cy-Hope's headquarters on Telge Road in Cypress before school starts in August.
