Cy-Hope Launches Summer Feeding Program to Support Cypress Area Families in Need

June 19 2025

As summer begins in Cypress, so too does a season of increased need for many families across the Cy‑Fair area and beyond. For thousands of local children who rely on free and reduced lunches during the school year, the break from school can create a serious gap in daily nutrition. That’s why Cy‑Hope’s Summer Feeding Program—now officially underway—is more than just a meal distribution initiative. It’s a lifeline.

On Wednesday, June 18, Cy‑Hope kicked off this year’s summer food distribution with the help of generous donors, including the Cy‑Fair Women’s Club, whose contributions ensured that local families could take home bags filled with pantry staples and nutritious options.

“We understand that hunger doesn’t take a vacation,” Cy‑Hope organizers shared. “While our feeding program supports students during the school year, we also recognize the need to extend that support into the summer months.”

Weekly Food Distribution Details

Cy‑Hope hosts free food distributions every Wednesday through July 23, located at their headquarters at 12715 Telge Rd, Cypress, TX 77429. The events begin at 10:00 a.m. and run while supplies last. There is no registration required, and the program is open to anyone in need, regardless of income or ZIP code.

Each week, families receive a curated selection of shelf‑stable food and snacks designed to help sustain children during the long summer days away from school.

How You Can Help: Donations Feed Hope

Community members are encouraged to support the effort by donating food or funds. High‑need items for the Summer Feeding Program and Cy‑Hope’s Mobile Food Distributions include:

  • Canned meat and soup
  • Pasta and rice
  • Hot and cold cereal
  • Packaged vegetables and fruits
  • Peanut butter and jelly
  • Individually‑packaged snacks

Donations can be dropped off at the Backpack Barn, located in the back of the Cy‑Hope campus on Telge Road. For added convenience, supporters can shop directly from Cy‑Hope’s Amazon wishlist or donate money online:

Background on Hunger During the Summer in Houston

Summer can be a particularly vulnerable time for food‑insecure families in Houston and surrounding areas:

  • Nearly 1 in 4 children in Harris County live in food‑insecure households—a rate of approximately 23.6 % among children

  • In Southeast Texas, around 1 million people face food insecurity; the Houston Food Bank alone serves roughly 800,000 families annually, distributing about 10,000 meals daily through summer sites.

  • The 18‑county Houston Food Bank service area reports a 15.4 % overall food insecurity rate in 2022, with certain areas like San Jacinto and Trinity counties peaking at 18.8 %.

Despite the support systems in place, the loss of access to school‑based meals during the summer months means child hunger “spikes” in the summer, making community programs like Cy‑Hope’s Summer Feeding Program essential.

About Cy‑Hope

Founded with the mission to make life better for every school‑aged child in Cy‑Fair ISD and Waller ISD, Cy‑Hope offers holistic support programs ranging from mental health services and mentoring to backpack food support and college readiness initiatives. The Summer Feeding Program is one of many ways the organization steps in to bridge gaps during critical times of need.

By offering consistent access to food, Cy‑Hope ensures that local children are not left behind during summer’s most vulnerable months. As organizers note, feeding hope is a community effort—and there's still time for neighbors to get involved.
