Cy Falls Cheer Wins NCA National Title
The Cypress Falls High School cheerleading team won the national championship at the National Cheerleading Association (NCA) High School Nationals, held Jan. 19-21 in Dallas.
The Golden Eagles won in the Novice Varsity Crowd Leading-Small division, competing against 16 other teams. They scored 95.9542 points to clinch the first national championship in Cypress Falls history.
“This team has faced so many challenges throughout this season, including having to utilize an alternate two minutes before competing at regionals due to someone breaking their finger in warmups, moving gyms two weeks before nationals, practices being canceled because of weather concerns, and practicing outside with a 30-degree wind chill,” said Jacky Hart, Cypress Falls cheer coach.
NCA was founded in 1948 by Lawrence “Herkie” Herkimer with a vision of creating an atmosphere to cultivate the whole cheerleader. As the first cheerleading company, NCA offers innovative camp curriculum, industry-leading championships and events that reward hard-working, well-rounded cheerleaders across America.
“To come out on top in the end is a true victory. At no point did I see them lose sight of their goal. They grew as a team, united in every way. If you’ve been fortunate to see the moment we realized we won, the amount of tears and celebration speaks volumes. This win isn’t just for the cheer team; it’s for the entire school. This accomplishment represents who we are at Cy Falls—we are one,” said Hart.
The Cypress Ranch High School cheer team was runner-up in the Intermediate Varsity Performance-Large division, scoring 93.7 points among four teams. The Mustangs also won an award for Best Use of Tumbling.
