Cy-Fair Women's Club Serves Neighbors in Need

June 21 2023

By Patricia Swagerty, Cy-Fair Women's Club

May was a busy community service month for the Cy-Fair Women's Club (CWC). In addition to the CWC's annual scholarship reception and presenting recipients at their respective award ceremonies, the Pink Ladies have been hard at work in support of the community despite the heat.

Slightly used books were donated and delivered to the Friends of the Houston Public Library, which will be sold to raise funds to support the Houston Public Library's programs.  As part of a monthly delivery program, 208 pounds of Macaroni and Cheese were donated and delivered to Cy-Fair Helping Hands.

The Pink Ladies gave a helping hand to the MESA-OUTREACH food pantry.  Food was unloaded from trucks and pallets, then stocked in their food pantry. Fifty-pound bags of rice and beans were divided into one-pound bags for distribution.  Later in the week, volunteers from the CWC provided assistance in unloading a donation from the Pepsi Company. In addition, the Pink Ladies assisted MESA-OUTREACH with one of their evening food distributions. An assembly line was created with multiple stations, where produce was sorted and packaged.  Once the drive-thru distribution began, the Pink Ladies helped with registration and check-in, managed an assembly line station, and helped load vehicles.  Within a few hours, 400 vehicles were loaded with donated food.

Breast cancer pillows were delivered to the Oncology Department at HCA Houston North Cypress. These pillows have been a long-time service project of the CWC, with hundreds lovingly made and delivered to local breast cancer patients over the years.

The Pink Ladies also helped both Cy-Fair Helping Hands and MESA-OUTREACH after each received 24 pallets of food from Jesus Christ Church of Latter-Day Saints, Salt Lake City, Utah. Thirteen pallets of boxed and bagged food were repacked in containers for Cy-Fair Helping Hands to prevent pests from getting into them. The Pink Ladies also transported, unpacked, and stocked thirteen pallets of food in MESA-OUTREACH's food pantry.

While many of the CWC's members volunteered for these hands-on community service projects, their Shop 'til You Drop Committee was busy planning and filling vendor booths.  Watch for more information regarding CWC's annual fundraiser, Shop 'til You Drop 2023 Marketplace.  Save the Date - Saturday, September 9!
