Cy-Fair ISD Appoints Dr. Tonya Goree as New Chief Academic Officer
On December 13, 2024, Cy-Fair Independent School District (CFISD) announced the appointment of Dr. Tonya Goree as its new Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Goree, who previously served as the district’s assistant superintendent for elementary curriculum and instruction, will take over the role from Dr. Linda Macias, who is retiring effective December 31.
Dr. Goree has been an integral part of CFISD for over a decade. She joined the district in 2009, initially serving as an assistant principal at Tipps Elementary School. She later held leadership roles as principal at Lee Elementary School and Francone Elementary School. Before being named assistant superintendent for elementary curriculum and instruction in 2023, Dr. Goree also served as the assistant superintendent for school improvement and transformation from 2018 to 2023. In this position, she was responsible for providing campus support and instructional coaching to principals and leadership teams across all grade levels, focusing on school improvement practices.
Throughout her career, Dr. Goree has built a reputation for her commitment to educational excellence, leadership, and community engagement. Her extensive background spans across various roles in education, including her tenure in Aldine ISD and Fort Bend ISD, where she served as an assistant principal and a mathematics instructional specialist.

Dr. Goree holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Lamar University, a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Prairie View A&M University, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Houston.

Her appointment marks a new chapter for CFISD, with Dr. Goree set to oversee the district’s academic programs and curriculum development, ensuring that the district’s educational standards continue to meet the needs of its diverse student population.
