Cy-Fair Helping Hands Partners with Elite Auto Experts
Though he’s been homeless for many years, “Pancho” owns his own vehicle, driving a 1999 Ford Explorer. It’s parked outside of the tent where he lives, and though it runs it has definitely seen better days. With the cost of maintenance and repairs, Pancho simply cannot replace tires, or get the oil changed, much less fix the air conditioner or find out what that check engine light means. And not only does he drive himself around, but he also picks up other homeless people and brings them to Cy-Fair Helping Hands’ Day Center for hot meals, showers, laundry facilities, and some much-needed fellowship.
Enter Moufid Rabieh, owner of Elite Auto Experts. Moufid has a huge heart for his community and is always looking for new and better ways to help people who are struggling. In the past, Elite Auto Experts mechanics fixed up used cars until they were like new, and through partnerships with local nonprofits, donated the cars to needy individuals.
This year Moufid wants to help even more people. “If I provide a car, I’ve helped one person. But if I give several people maintenance and repairs for a year, I can help many people” stated Moufid. He is working with five local nonprofits, including Cy-Fair Helping Hands, to provide a year of maintenance and repairs to individuals who truly need work done on their vehicles but who cannot afford to do so.
“I’ve worked with Moufid and Elite Auto Experts for several years now”, said Janet Ryan, CFHH’s Executive Director. “I continue to be amazed at their generosity and their true desire to make a difference for people who need a helping hand. They have literally changed lives, making transportation available to people who could not afford it on their own. And now, in this case with Pancho, not only will they make it possible for him to continue to drive, but repairing his vehicle will allow him to continue to bring others to our Day Center. They are positively impacting many people through helping this single individual."
Elite Auto Experts and Cy-Fair Helping Hands will work together to help others who need assistance again later in the year. “We always look forward to working with Moufid and his staff” stated Ryan, “and their generosity reminds us how a single gift can make such a long-term difference for others.”
